Sustainable Design in Action: Transforming Rewind® Carpet with MJ’s Events Ltd
Circular Innovation in Event Furniture
At Future Makers, we believe the materials you use today can become the assets that power your brand tomorrow. That’s exactly what happened when we teamed up with MJ’s Events Ltd - leaders in recyclable event flooring and distributors of the innovative Rewind® carpet.
MJ’s approached us with a bold idea: could their carpet find new life beyond the event floor? Together, we answered with a resounding yes - creating striking, functional furniture that showcases what circular design can truly achieve.
Sustainable Design in Action: Circular Innovation for Event Materials
Every year, thousands of square meters of event flooring are used once and then removed. MJ’s Events Ltd saw an opportunity to close the loop. Their Rewind® carpet is made from 100% recyclable polypropylene and they wanted to take its sustainability one step further by exploring ways to close the loop.
Through our collaboration, we reimagined used Rewind® carpet into a durable and design-led flat-pack furniture system. The result? A remarkable conversation-starting centrepiece for their exhibition stand and a tangible example of circular innovation in action.

Design with Purpose, Built to Last
The furniture system we created with MJ’s is visually striking, fully recyclable and designed with simplicity and longevity in mind. By working with single-material components and avoiding adhesives or mixed materials, the result is a clean, future-friendly design that can be disassembled, reused, or remade as needed.
To complete the circular vision, we also designed durable transport bags made from the same Rewind® carpet - turning the material into both the product and the packaging. It’s proof that sustainable choices don’t have to compromise on quality, functionality, or style.
Sustainability Impact: The Numbers Speak for Themselves
Keith Swain, General Manager at MJ’s, explains “Across three major UK events, International Confex, the Event Production Show and the PA Show, we have supplied 19,000m² of Rewind event carpet, equivalent to 4,370kg of recycled material.”
The environmental impact is significant, including:
CO₂ savings of approximately 14.25 tonnes
Water savings of around 3,230 litres
Potential to manufacture 168 chairs from recycled material
“As demand for Rewind grows, the ability to close the loop - turning post-event carpet into high-quality, reusable furniture - will become a defining feature of sustainable event production,” he concluded.
Jennifer Bishopp, Chief Operating Officer at MJ’s added “We’re incredibly excited about the possibilities this opens up for the events industry. We’ve always seen Rewind as more than just carpet - it’s a resource with incredible potential. Now, we’re proving how it can be repurposed into something sustainable, practical, beautiful, and truly circular.”
